The Elements of Artificial Intelligence Using Common Lisp
The Elements of Artificial Intelligence Using Common Lisp
by Steven L. Tanimoto
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars A very broad treatment of AI Fundamentals, Nov 8 1997
Tanimoto provides a very broad treatment of AI techniques. As such dicussions are often brief. There is an outstanding section on Computer vision. Knowledge representation is also well covered. The author presents highly idiomatic examples of Lisp code. This book would be ideal for anyone not familiar with AI techniques who wants to do AI research and/or development.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best treatment of classical AI techniques available, Nov 8 1997
This is an extremely advanced book on AI techniques. The examples are the best that I have seen in thirty years of Lisp involvment. The author treats many of the classical AI programs and implements them with Common Lisp. Sophisticated search strategies are discussed with example code being given for all of them. A very strong chapter on program optimization is included, a subject often omitted by Lisp writers. Included is complete code for Eliza as well as a treatment of EMYCIN. The author also treats the implementation of embedded languages and gives PROLOG and SCHEME as examples. The book is addressed to production level programmers. This book is definately not for beginners in the Lisp language.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must if want to control your Object Inheritence Mechanisms, Nov 8 1997
This book is the first so far to completely discuss the mechanisms of the Metaobject Protocol. This is an advanced treatment and will be of value to the experienced Lisp programmer. The book covers all aspects of the MOP in great detail and when the reader has finished it, he or she will be very comfortable with CLOS mechanisms, and even more importantly, why these features have been implemented in the ways that they have.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Introduction to ANSI LISP, Nov 8 1997
This review is from: ANSI Common LISP (Paperback)
Graham gives a very practical introduction to Lisp. I've been using Lisp for thirty years and still have learned from it. The book is very easy to read and would be ideal for those who have not used Lisp before. The summary of ANSI Lisp functions at the end of the book is perhaps its most outstanding feature. This book is very highly recommeded for anone who is using an ANSI Common Lisp implementation.
