Using Template Macros

File templates for the Inventory Loader and for category-specific Inventory Files include the macros described below.

On the Add-Ins menu in the toolbar at the top of the template, you will find four macros. If the macros are not appearing, see Enabling Macros in Excel.

Validate
Upload File
Import File
Update Template

With these macros, you can validate your data and learn how to correct any errors, as well as automate some of the tasks in populating and uploading your file. These macros are designed to simplify your experience and are highly recommended.

Validate Macro

The Validate macro quickly checks the data you have provided in your template to make sure it contains all the required fields and data types. Any cells that contain data errors will be highlighted in red for easy identification.  An example is shown below.

The Validate macro will also add notes to the cells with errors that explain how to fix them.

How do I get my Amazon MWS credentials for the Product Lookup and Upload macros?

The Upload macros in this template require authorization through Amazon Marketplace Web Service (Amazon MWS).

You can retrieve and import your authorization credentials from within the template itself. Click one of the macros that requires authorization, and you will be prompted through the process. You will also be prompted to create a security password for using the template macros.

If you previously retrieved your credentials but want to import them again, click the Credentials macro at the top of the template, and then click "I have forgotten or would like to obtain my MWS credentials."

You can also get your credentials when the template is not open, using this link:

https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gp/mws/registration/register.html

On the first page, select "I want to access my own Amazon seller account with MWS" and then click Next:

On the next page, read the Amazon MWS License Agreement, click the box to confirm that you have read it and agree to the terms, and then click Next.

Copy/paste your credentials from the page that appears, and save them for later use:

When the upload is complete, the macro provides the Batch ID number - important if you would like to contact our support team about the upload. It also provides a "Check status" link which takes you directly to the Upload Inventory File page in Seller Central where youll find the current status of your uploads in the Review File Status and History section.

Import File Macro

If you have your product data in your own Excel file, you can use the Import File macro to import the data. The macro can import files of type .csv, .txt, and.xls.

This macro lets you "map" (match) columns between your file and the specific template you are using.

Update Template Macro

The Update Template macro updates your template using the most current version of the template available from Amazon. When you click Update Template, youll have the option to set the macro to automatically update the template at regular intervals.

Using the Update Template macro ensures you are using the most up-to-date file template with all required and optional fields and valid values.
