Down With Love (Widescreen Edition) DVD ~ Ewan McGregor
Down with love takes a script that spoofs the romantic comedies from the 50's and 60's and adds a 21st century flair. Renee and Ewan did a fine job, the sets and costumes were groovy and the 60's cool/spy jazz soundtrack was great. The film does use a lot of sexual innuendo, which I happened to enjoy, but may not be for everyone. I thought the twists at the end were a little too drawn out (and over-explained). The film also lacked something I couldn't quite put my finger on ... after a few days I still haven't figured out what could have put in on par with those Hepburn/Peck and Day/Hudson films ... maybe just the fact that it's not an old film and the dialogue is more on the witty than… Read more

I'm a sucker for a Robert Redford film and after watching the Horse Whisperer I cannot think of any other actor who could have played the lead role better.

The film starts off innocently enough with two young girls Judith and Grace (played by excellent new actreess Scarlett Johansson) taking a horseback ride in the snow. There's a terrible accident in which Judith dies, Grace is crippled and Grace's horse is injured. The tragedy destroys both the horse's and Grace's trust and self-esteem.

Grace's mother, a busy magazine editor, eventually decides to take her daughter and horse to Tom Booker, the Horse Whisperer (Redford), in Montana. Tom's reluctant to help out but eventually… Read more

Spider [Import] DVD ~ Ralph Fiennes
Spider [Import] DVD ~ Ralph Fiennes
Spider is a fantastic film. Although slow moving, it's showcases some superb acting and Cronenburg's grittiness, while keeping you filled with anticipation and curiosity. Ralph Fiennes, in his best performance to date plays Spider a mumbling schizophrenic who can be seen picking up random bits of trash or putting his hands down his pants to pull out a sock where he keeps his note. Spider recalls his past, particularly the relationship between his mother (played brilliantly by Miranda Richardson - who plays multiple roles in the film) and his father (played by Gabriel Byrne) while he was a small boy. Young spider is played by Bradley Hall a boy who's trying to deal with the confusing… Read more
