Under the Pink ~ Tori Amos
Under the Pink ~ Tori Amos
This record came out years ago, and my poor, battered copy has the scratches and dents to prove it. So why now would I want to spend my time writing a review? Because it's "greatest hits" time in Tori land, and I think that we all know what that means.
Of course, many will argue, with some vigor, that the appearance of a "greatest hits" record is not the death knell to a career, but rather a turning point, or a good bye to old material or even perhaps, just the whim of the record company that the artist had no inclination to fight...but I don't REALLY believe that and neither do you. Mamas Gun ~ Erykah Badu
THis record is one part revolution, one part post-feminist theory, with some smarty pants and of course, several strong nods to love's sneaky ways. No, no that's not right. Do you have a life? If so, then chances are this record will touch you. It's broad reach, effortless and easy, goes exactly that far. Of course, that's not to say that Erykah doesn't intone on the… Read more
Lost in Space ~ Aimee Mann
Lost in Space ~ Aimee Mann
Most reveiwers, when they talk about Ms Mann, mention her struggle with Geffen, her connection to Magnolia, her Til Tuesday affiliation...and while I must believe all these salient facts have contributed to this sublime record, i also would like to point out that the quality, the integrity of this music transcends all those quaint little facts. When i'm riding down the highway with this cd coasting along with me, doing seventy and feeling like I'm breaking the sound barrier, well i'm just not thinking "That Aimee, she battles the corporate world like a tigress. I wonder if she understood that scene with all the frogs?"
NOt that I don't have enormous respect for her… Read more
