About a Burning Fire ~ Blindside
About a Burning Fire ~ Blindside
First of all, maybe it's just me, but the album cover is just a little bit frightening.

Anyway, Blindside's fourth album is definitely above average, and, in my opinion, better than their last effort, Silence. Whereas "Silence" pretty much sounded the same throughout the entire disc, with the exception of the standout title track, Blindside definitely opts for a more varied sound on "About A Burning Fire". From the mellow funkiness of "Shekina" to the straight-up metalcore of "About A Burning Fire", to the modern rock/techno synthesis of "Where The Sun Never Dies", to...well, whatever the hell "Hooray It's LA" is supposed to… Read more

Pinkerton ~ Weezer
Pinkerton ~ Weezer
5.0 out of 5 stars Yay, Weezer, Sep 8 2003
Understand that Pinkerton is the best album Weezer has ever (or quite possibly, will ever) put out. Rivers Cuomo casts aside all the cloaks and shadows and confronts himself and this cruel little world with a painfully-resonant honesty that he kicks himself daily for ever having the stupidity to put on record (and attempts to atone for the mistake by crafting song after song of snidely catchy nonsense). Tired of Sex, Pink Triangle, Falling for You, Across the Sea, The Good Life and Getchoo are all masterpieces. And El Scorcho is simply my favorite song of all time. It should be yours, too. But that's just a stupid dream that I won't realize, 'cuz I can't even look in your eyes without… Read more

It might be well to establish a few things before actually reviewing this album.
Number one, according to the media industry, this album is "pretentious". We're not talking let's-toss-out-a-few-snide-Yes-comparisons-and-move-on pretentious. We're talking yes-the-band-members-regularly-practice-self-flagelation-in-order-to-deal-with-the-massive-pretentions-undertaken-to-make-this-album-possible pretentious. But it must be admitted, a large amount of this perceived "pretension" is due to the massive pre-album hype. If Rolling Stone hadn't been hyping Comatorium up months before its release, we'd be much more kind-hearted in our words regarding the perceived musical humility, or lack… Read more
