Vusi Mahlasela isn't nicknamed "the Voice" without good reason. Whether he is singing in English or Zulu, he sounds amazing. I listen to this CD over and over. I love it!
There are so many compilations out there, and this is one of the best. Regardless of how "important" or "representative" the songs chosen here are, they all sound great! A wonderful addition to any world or African music collection, and great for a beginner in African/world music!
This album would be better titled "singers from Ireland and Scotland" rather than Celtic music. You're not going to get too much Altan or Capercaillie type Celtic cadences here-a lot of rock groups that originated in Ireland, and a lot of fiddle instrumentals, many of them quite melancholic. An expensive pick for just a few worthwhile tunes. Stick to the Putumayo collections-they are much more upbeat and authentic.
