Fantastic Season!, July 11 2011

Wow, Damages, even in its third season, fails to disappoint! I was hooked after the first episode of Season 1. Lo and behold, I liked season 2 even better. Finally on DVD, Season 3 is my absolute favourite.

Seemingly based on the Madoff Ponzi scheme, Season 3 is a pulse-pounding, edge of your seat ride! It's an exciting and insightful season - I can only imagine that many of these conversations (or at least some very similar in nature) took place within the walls of the Madoff penthouse. The show doesn't even try to dance around it - this IS the Madoff Ponzi scheme through the eyes of Patty Hewes. An absolutely original and fantastic film, Aug 30 2009

I saw this film at the Toronto International Film Festival around this time last year; what was initially a somewhat blasé decision based on my lukewarm affinity for the work of Rian Johnson (Brick) turned out to be one of the gems of the festival for me. I absolutely loved this movie.

Filled with eccentric characters and snappy dialogue, I would highly recommend this film to anyone who enjoys the work of Wes Anderson (Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, etc.) or even Quentin Tarantino (dare I say it). Enjoy.

Great story, acting, characters and pacing..., May 31 2009

Weirdly enough, after watching this film for the first time, I thought it was good, warranting maybe 3.5 to 4 stars. However, after watching the film again, I just fell in love with it. I don't know if I wasn't in the mood the first go around, but everything about the film just resonated with me after a second viewing.

I think the beauty of the film lies in its pacing; Hanson kind of takes the viewer along on a weekend littered with truly eccentric characters and wonderfully entertaining situations. I can't speak highly enough about the film, it will always be a lazy Sunday favorite, comfortable and gratifying in every way.
