This is Tool's second album that was released a year after their debut was released. This is also their first full length studio album which is more compelling and darker than "Opiate". Maynard James Keenans' lyrics are much more complex than their debut and the songs are longer than "Opiate". Adam Jones guitar playing is heavier than that of "Opiate". Standout tracks on this album include "Intolerance", "Prison Sex", "Sober", and "Undertow". The last track,"Disgustipated", is a fifthteen minute track in which Maynard mocks a catholic priest trying to save carrots from being harvested. If you already heard the song "Opiate", than you already know that Maynard is not too fond of religion… Read more

Tool's debut album is a brute force of songs which introduces Tool's style to the world. Although this is not a full length album and not as complex as their future releases, this is still a compelling album. Maynard James Keenan talks about a variety of subjects such as censorship on the song "Hush", moral hypocricy on the song "Jerk-off", and religious hypocricy on the song "Opiate". Once you hear that song, you know that Maynard is not too fond of religion. Adam Jones is also introduced to the world with his amazing guitar playing. This album was a hit in the alternative music scene when they went touring with Lollapalooza in 1992. There is also an hidden track after "Opiate" called "The… Read more

Maynard James Keenan is probably the best songwriter in our time talking about loss of feelings and emotions in the song "Stinkfist", talking about how he sees and feels about Los Angeles(listen to the lyrics to understand) in the song "Aenema",and talking about how he feels about being called a sellout by a fan in the song "Hooker with a Penis." The best song on the album is the song "Third Eye", which is at least thirteen minutes long. The song is so good that you don't even know that… Read more
