Dear fellow readers: I borrowed this book from a friend, who used it in a university course. It was said that the examples used in this book were not sufficient enough to get the grasp of the concepts. I am sorry to say that this is not the only problem with this book. Although this is very complete book from concept to application point of view, the problem lies with the road the authors have taken to explain those theories. The topics are simply skimmed over and not much elaboration given to both development of the equations and application of those equations. As mentioned above the examples did not clarify my confusion any further. This left me confused and not as clear a picture as… Read more
Dear fellow readers: I recently read Schaum's outline of feedback and control systems. This book was recommended to me as a text that will give me a clear understanding of control systems. I am sorry to say that this book did not meet my original expectations. The basic concepts are very well illustrated in the first two chapters, but then it dives into explaining the mathematics of control systems (differential equations, z-transform etc.). They're simply too much emphasis of the vocabulary, which is down right confusing. The book also fails to give a clear picture of how different design methods (e.g. Root-Locus) can be employed in a real situation. It is my recommendation that this book… Read more
Dear fellow readers: The subject of mass and heat transfer is very involved, and it has applications in many industrial processes. This book starts with a very fundamental explanation of heat transfer. The introduction seems to be from a grade ten science class, hence it is easily understood. As the chapters develop, other concepts such as thermodynamics, solids, and fluids come in to discussion. For this reason I recommend that any one who wishes to read this book, have a firm grasp on these subjects. These sections are far and few in between, so a reader can further develop their understanding with out much difficulty. As the title states the book is about both heat and mass transfer. It… Read more
