5.0 out of 5 stars Gnostic Nihilism, April 21 2004
A celebration of utter bleakness that becomes beautiful in the courage of its purity...imagine John Doe of the film, Seven, but with the hatred replaced by wonder. Ligotti is the best American horror writer since H.P. Lovecraft, and perhaps the best American prose poet since Poe.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Laughed Until I Hurt, April 21 2004
This achingly funny book introduces the idea that America's corporations are actually run by H.P. Lovecraft monsters...it makes perfect sense to me. The author's view of corporate culture is dead-on accurate, and behind the laughs, there is real anger at the utter dehumanization of the contemporary workplace, and at the weakness of American workers who have allowed themselves to be turned into corporate fodder. In its own nutty way, this is a very important book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Astonishingly Beautiful, April 21 2004
This intensely visual book has the depth and mystery of the 17th Century alchemical works...like them, it is about transformation, and the solidification of the heart's essence, in this case, the desire to fly. Endlessly imaginative and obsessively generous, a glorious torrent of images that is almost an assault...this is one of my favorite books.
