First off, if you haven't played the first dead space, why are you still sitting here? GO PLAY IT! Dead Space was a sleeper hit a couple of years ago and EA has been able to turn a dead space into a franchise. Seriously though, while you don't need to have played the first one to enjoy dead space 2, there are some inside jokes you will only get if you played the first one.
