Berserk: The Golden Age Arc II - The Battle for Do&hellip Blu-ray ~ Chris Jai Alex
I reviewed and gave the first release 5 stars, but didn't like this one as much.

The action is bloody and great, and there is a huge body count in this episode. The bad guys getting wasted by Guts is really why I watch Berserk and the famous 100 man battle didn't disappoint. However... there is a graphic sex scene that I thought was unnecessarily drawn out and made me feel a tad uncomfortable and a ballroom scene that was also a bit long. These two scenes, especially the sex scene, detracted from the show overall, in my opinion and I feel they could have shortened these and instead added some additional scene from the original series and manga that were left out (e.g. Griffith… Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Berserk arc, Feb. 15 2014
The first arc of Berserk is still its most compelling and strongest. How strong is it? Well so strong that even though it is just a rehash of the story that all Berserk fans are familiar with, it still grips me.

I don't mind the animation - about half of it is CG and it is a bit choppy in places - at times it feels like you are watching a cut scene in a video game (similar to Valkyria Chronicles), but I got used to it. The action is well animated and bloody.

The key moments of this arc include Griffith asking Guts to join the Band of the Hawk, their encounter against Zodd, Guts the tragic assassin, culminating with Griffith's epic "I have a dream" speech… Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Sigh..., Feb. 15 2014
I've been a loyal fan of Berserk for years now, since the original TV anime release. I still faithfully buy the Dark Horse volumes, and I have to say, it's been dying a slow death for the last few years, in my opinion. Though the art is better, the book doesn't take chances anymore with its storytelling and has become boring. Each chapter feels like filler now.

The first arc is still the best and has not been surpassed. The Berserk today is not the Berserk I once knew.

I hope the spark will be reignited one day.
