Some viewers find this film confusing because it consists of six interlaced stories told in small segments in rapid successions. This device of story-telling is used by the British author David Mitchell in his book Cloud Atlas on which this film is based to show how the predatory nature of human beings propagates through space and time. The stories span from 1849 on a Pacific island to 2321 in "The Valley" on a post-apocalyptic earth. Flying Wild Alaska is one of the few wholesome "reality television series" on cable.
