I really REALLY wanted to love this novel - read all the hype and unfortunately - bought into it. I even kept it for ages before reading - so I would have a GREAT novel to read in my leisure time - what a mistake! I have never been so freakin' bored out of my ever lovin mind - the first chapter was ok - the rest was a snorefest. The premise behind this was a MURDER - and I got short paragraphs of demetia getting worse and worse. I wanted more of the murder "mystery" and every chapter - it just got more and more slow and tedious - I hate to admit it - but I skipped thru the entire last 3/4 of the book. Arghhhhhhh. It was painful and - a complete waste of my hard earned cash to buy this… Read more
Rescue: A Novel by Anita Shreve
Rescue: A Novel by Anita Shreve
I guess I am not being too fair to Ms. Shreve, as I am comparing most of her novels to the first novel I ever read by her - RESISTANCE. That was a novel worth telling friends about, worth reading more than once, worth thinking - this would be a fantastic movie. Reading RESCUE - just p*ssed me off. The character of Sheila - just could not stand her from the first word out of her mouth, could not understand for the life of me - why Peter Webster would fall for her - he seemed way smarter than to fall for a woman with no redeeming values in her. Anyway - long story short - hated this book. For anyone who has not read Resistance - pick it up - you won't be disappointed.

From beginning to end - this story of author Stacey O'Brien and her Owl Wesley is one of discovery and joy, laughter and tears. Wesley is a little "human", only with feathers. To read this novel and know that Wesley totally got what his "mom" Stacey was saying to him and showing him as he grew to an adult owl is nothing short of amazing (some things never witnessed in the behavoir of Barn Owls - i.e. he took baths and "owl showers" and Barn Owls hate hate hate water! Wesley rocks and this is one of my favorite novels of the year. Bravo to Stacey O'Brien - a Great Life Story well told.
