If you write Christian books, provide Christian programs on television or the radio, or are a minister or pastor and would like to consider writing a quote for the book, please send me an e-mail at save_more_souls@yahoo.com/.
I write book reviews with a purpose to help you find the books that will be most valuable to you and your family.
Many people ask about my reading and reviewing habits. Here are answers to the most common questions:
1. I rarely read books that authors or publishers offer to send me. 2. I read 2-3 hours a day. On an average book, my speed is around 2,000 words per minute. I learned how to read quickly and with good comprehension during sophomore year of high school. 3. To go faster yourself, read more words at one glance until you can do one line at a time. Learn to stop 'hearing' the words in your mind. Then do two lines, etc. Next, do one paragraph at a time. Then two, etc. Use tests to check your understanding as you go faster. 4. See http://www.proportionalre ading.com/ for software that can help you read faster up to 1000 words a minute with more comprehension. This also works for dyslexics! Click on the center of the home page to get to the content. A free DVD demo is available. 5. Reading aloud to children of all ages helps them bond with their parents, develop emotional stability, and improves reading skills and intellect. I worked with my youngest child to review a series of her favorites. I hope you and your children (or grandchildren) enjoy them! 6. If you have a new book that will help many people, tell me why you think I will like your book and how it will help readers. 7. In addition, I will almost always make time to read and review books for those who are willing to generously contribute to Habitat for Humanity. Please contact me for details. 8. I describe my philosophy of book reviewing in detail and propose how you can be a better book reviewer in Adventures of an Optimist.
I like to help people learn how to become better Christians. As an example, you can read about the winners (May 14, 2007) and runners-up (June 12, 2007) of the contest I sponsored to locate the best ways to save more souls at: http://livespirituallybet terthanabillionaire.blogs pot.com/
To assist in improving your life, I also head the 400 Year Project (showing how you and the whole world can make improvements at 20 times the normal rate by eliminating bad habits that delay progress and using more effective methods for improving).
I am a professor, strategy consultant, and co-author of business books exemplifying the 400 year project. For a summary of the project see Adventures of an Optimist. See free excerpts of other books about the project at other online sites.
Other books I have coauthored for the project are The 2,000 Percent Solution (explaining you how to accomplish 20 times as much with the same time and resources), The 2,000 Percent Solution Workbook, The 2,000 Percent Squared Solution (explaining how a business can accomplish 400 times as much with the same time and resources), The Portable 2,000 Percent Solution, The Irresistible Growth Enterprise, and The Ultimate Competitive Advantage.
Thank you, Helen Coster of Forbes.com, for writing a generous profile of my reviewing on December 1, 2006. See http://www.forbes.com/200 6/11/30/donald-mitchell-a mazon-tech-media_cz_hc_bo oks06_1201amazon.html

"The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
And he who wins souls is wise." -- Proverbs 11:30
My pastor recently suggested I read biographies and autobiographies of well-known evangelists to learn more about how each was helped to gain Salvation. Naturally, the autobiography of Billy Graham made that list. His high-profile crusades were a worldwide staple for many years. Somehow I was not surprised to read that Dr. Graham was born again while attending crusade-like campaign meetings conducted by Dr. Mordecai Fowler Ham when Dr. Graham was 16.
Reading the humble words about Dr. Graham's beginnings in life and in his faith, I was drawn powerfully… Lire la suite

"Yet man is born to trouble,
As the sparks fly upward."
--Job 5:7
There Goes the Bride nicely summarizes the frustrations of being an unattached fifty-year-old who craves romance and is beginning to doubt herself. Most novels write about such characters through lots of psychological Sturm und Drang. M.C. Beaton takes a better route by putting lots of action together so we can deduce Agatha Raisin's inner turmoil through her whirling dervish imitations. In fact, I don't recall another mystery in the series that has as much action as this one . . . a rarity in a cozy.
Although Agatha knows that James Lacey isn't right for her (after all, he… Lire la suite

"You, who have shown me great and severe troubles,
Shall revive me again,
And bring me up again from the depths of the earth." -- Psalm 71:20
Before thinking about buying or reading this book, please be aware that all the articles were originally published in The New Yorker. If you are a loyal reader of that excellent publication, you may well have read all these articles before.
The strength of Mr. Gladwell's writing in these non-fiction articles is his ability to become fascinated with something that most people either don't notice . . . or don't long think about. With the persistence of a terrier, he keeps asking questions until some new… Lire la suite
