(Actually, I give it an "A" ! - but reading this book & remembering the "bee" sketches of 1975 was just so great, I had to have a little fun.) I was a fan of this show from its start, watching it religiously when I lived in New York from the mid 70's to the late 80's, and so I found this book to be, in the first part, a highly enjoyable trip down Memory Lane. It evokes the feeling of the show so vividly! The style of the book, with the various players, writers, producers and hosts all talking in turns, is perfect for getting a sense of what was going on with the show, both behind the scenes and in front of the cameras, as the years progressed. I was captivated by the illustrations as well as the narration of the simple but engaging story. Charlotte Voake has cat expressions and behaviours down pat! Ginger's look of appalled aggrievement when the kitten clambers, in such perfect kitten style, into his basket, captures feline character perfectly. And the illustration for "The kitten waited for a bit, then he got into Ginger's basket. It wasn't the same without Ginger." is priceless. I bought this book for my godchild but haven't been able to relinquish it! Well, she can have it soon - as long as she keeps it at my house.

The bright bold colours make a terrific background for Milton the black and white cat. Milton is the narrator, and anyone who's ever had a cat will smile knowingly when Milton, upon seeing that his cat carrier has been brought out, tries to run and hide --- but ends up sighing, "They always find me in the end". His expressions as he waits anxiously in the vet's office are beautiful. I've often thought about writing a book about the "adventures" of my own black and white cat, Axel --- but Milton IS the book I would have liked to write!! I plan to get the whole series AND all the accessories.
