A masterpiece! This book is not for the faint hearted- it's pretty graphic and descriptive. Sedaris takes the reader on a journey through the animal kingdom which looks remarkably similar to our own. That's all I can really say. Its a tough one to describe- you just have to read it to understand. The only complaint I have about this book is that it is too short.
Empty Casing is an excellent account of one man's journey through the Bosnian War and its aftermath on those who served on the front lines with the UN. A very well written book, Fred's writing style will appeal to all soldiers past and present. He gives the "boots on the ground" point of view and does not shy to speak with his heart on his sleeve about his experiences as an UNMO and his post-war emotional struggle with PTSD. Not only is Empty Casing a therapeutic release for the author, as Fred himself admits in the conclusion, it also gives a sense hope for soldiers currently dealing with PTSD knowing that there are others out there experiencing the same emotional rollercoaster years… Read more
