5.0 out of 5 stars Hero for Centuries, Aug 8 2010
Amazing Grace is the true life story of Sir William Wilberforce who spent his entire life and much of his fortune to end slavery in the British Empire. A rising politician, by 1807 British ships were banned from catering to the slave trade, and in 1833, slavery was banned in all British territories around the world. Wilberforce's final success ocurred just days before he died. The title of the movie comes from the hymn Amazing Grace, penned by John Newton, a former slave trader who saw the evil of his ways, and a friend of Wilberforce. This is a beautifully photographed movie, delicately produced and directed. It is of great historical value.

The filming of the burning of Atlantic - that could be done only once - was actually done before Scarlett O'Hara was found. Stand-in actors are seen in the scene. Indeed, clips of the screen tests of potential 'Scarletts' add a new dimension to the movie. This documentary adds a new dimension to the actual movie. Deseves a… Read more

Until the arrival of rock 'n roll, David Whitfield was British most popular singer. His medlodious voice says it all. He sang love songs that can't help but captivate. Reminiscent of Nelson Eddy. I was a boy when Whitfield was in his prime, but now, as a senior citizen, it gives me immense please to hear him sing again.
