In My Own Words:
Back in 2005 I decided to retire after a 29 year and 10 month career as an assistant state attorney. I now have a job as a legal skills professor at the University of Florida overseeing the prosecution clinic.

The Golden Rules of Advocacy by Keith Evans
At the beginning of this slim book Evans makes claims that cause him to sound just a trifle arrogant. Read his book two minutes a day and think about the principles set forth in the book for another eight minutes a day, and you will become an exceptionally good trial advocate. I had to smile as I read his claims. Then I read his book. It might not be quite as helpful as Evans says, but it is a very good book. Common Sense Rules Of Advocacy For Lawyers by Keith Evans
When this book was originally written, it bore the title "The Golden Rules of Advocacy," and the previous edition is still available under that name from Amazon.co.uk. When I discovered "Golden Rules" on Amazon.com, I wrote a glowing review.

Then I found… Read more

The fifties had to be the Golden Age of science fiction. It was the heyday of three of the greatest science fiction writers of all time (Asimov, Clark, & Heinlein, aka the Big Three), and there were many others writing who were almost as good. A goodly number of them are represented in this collection. Only Arthur Clark is missing. The stories, with their writers, and my ratings:

***"Destination Moon" by Robert Heinlein. This story was cutting edge for its day, but it has not aged very well. The science is good, but the characters and motivations are somewhat far fetched.

***"Pebble in the Sky" by Isaac Asimov. Another story based on a very interesting premise, but alas, the… Read more
