5.0 out of 5 stars Reinventing, Aug. 17 2007
People blast this album by citing that Beck is trying to mature. This is not a case of maturation but a natural step in the musical genius of what is "Beck". Instead of maturation, this is the same kind of reinvention Beck has done in all is previous and later albums. One of the best parts of a new beck album is that it will be different but as wonderful as his previous works.

And that's what this is: wonderful. I bought this after falling in love with Beck's previous album, "Midnight Vultures" - the opposite of this album. While "Midnight Vultures" was loud and obnoxious (in a good way), "Sea Change" can be described by a title of his first album, 'Mellow Gold'. Sea change… Read more

I'm surprised that many people haven't heard of this album. It's amazing. Not in a "indie" sort of way but in a top album's list sort of way. Simply put, Badlydrawnboy's debut is amazing and a feat that he has yet to reproduce.

It is an album that needs to be listened through from track one and in sequence. His talent is apparent in about every song. I can agree with criticism of tacking on needless sound bits between songs. But some of them act exceptionally well in transitioning from song to song.

These poppy songs paint beautiful pictures with metaphor laced lyrics, innovative sound and wonderful guitar playing. I haven't heard songs this rich since and long… Read more

My sister burnt me a cd with "Eddie's Gun" and "You don't Love me" on it. The catchiness of both songs prompted me to immediately buy this cd.

Catchy is a great way to describe this album. If you can listen through this album and not have at least one of the songs stuck in your head for days, well then... congrats? The point is, this CD is not a "get's better with repeat" cd. It grabs you immediately.

I could describe this as an upbeat brit pop version of the Strokes' "Is this It", but I'm not sure that would help anyone. Try listening to the songs previously mentioned along with "Matchbox" and "Naive" and see if it tickles your fancy.
