Christmas Pony, The by Melody Carlson
Christmas Pony, The by Melody Carlson
The Christmas Pony is a Christmas novella set in 1937 Arizona. It is just before Christmas, and all eight year old Lucy wants is a pony, which she saw for sale at a nearby farm. But her mother and grandmother run a boarding house with no paying guests at the moment, and barely enough money to care for themselves. They needed paying boarders.

When in town doing errands, Lucy meets two strangers on their way to California. The car breaks down, and they are in need of a place to stay. Lucy tells them about her mother's boarding house, and convinces them to stay. Lucy learns about the couple, and wonders if they will still be there for Christmas.

Whence Came A Prince is the third book in The Lowlands of Scotland series by award-winning author, Liz Curtis Higgs. It follows Thorn in my Heart and Fair Is The Rose. Set in 18th century Scotland, the story takes place in the lowlands region of Galloway and Dumfries. It is based on the biblical account of Jacob, Rachel, and Leah. I was familiar with the story from Genesis, but nothing prepared me for the amazing story that unfolded. Through Liz's love of history and all things Scottish, we are taken right into the setting and can relate to the characters from the first page till the last. And with Liz's careful research and amazing gift of writing, those pages turn quickly.
I highly… Read more

Mine is the Night, the latest historical fiction by beloved author, Liz Curtis Higgs, is the continuation (and conclusion), of the story which began in Here Burns My Candle.
Set in Selkirk, in the Scottish Borders in 1746, it is a superb retelling of the biblical story of the Book of Ruth. Liz is a master storyteller, and her descriptions engage all our senses. From the first page till the last, the reader becomes a part of life in Selkirk and surrounding countryside. Liz has also developed characters so real that they seem like friends. I want to join them for tea! We are involved in the whole gamut of emotions, and I found myself laughing with them, or shedding tears as the story… Read more
