I think that if I'd been a judge on the Giller Prize panel, I would have disagreed with the choice of Elizabeth Hay's book over Alissa York's brilliant Effigy. York's writing is evocative and lyrical, so stunning. Many sentences you want to read over and over just because they're that beautiful. Pure poetry.
If you're a fan of Cormac McCarthy or Charles Frazier, you will love this author's writing. I'm definitely going to buy her earlier works now. She's a talent to watch develop. Do yourself a favour and buy this book!
