One of the worst Three Stooges tapes I've seen. I just don't like westerns at all, not even the Stooge versions, and this is an all-Western tape. To me, Westerns are dry and boring. OUT WEST, PUNCHY COWPUNCHERS, MERRY MAVERICKS. OUT WEST is way too Westerny for my likes. MERRY MAVERICKS is an awful effort from the usually-great director Edward Bernds. As for PUNCHY COWPUNCHERS, I actually like that short a lot since it actually rips on Westerns and it's a well-done hilarious short, but I hate the idea of it being on an allWestern themed collection. If PUNCHY was put on a tape with other, non-Western themed Stooge shorts, then it would be more enjoyable. Plus, there's a nasty… Read more

A back-in-time themed video tape, and all shorts ironically come from the same year: I'M A MONKEY'S UNCLE (1948) is disappointing. Set in the Stone-Age. With the Stooges set as cavemen for the whole short, your expectations are high for a great, unique short, but they really wasted the premise. What we get is a lot of weak scenes, another 5 minute scene with Moe doing another poor Curly imitation (see also SHIVERING SHERLOCKS), and a weak ending. Although the interaction between Shemp and Baggie (Dee Green) is funny. But they didn't do much with this premise as they should've. Same thing with SELF MADE MAIDS, which casts the Stooges playing all the parts, even the supporting roles - and… Read more

CRASH GOES THE HASH (1944) - This is a fast-paced, hilarious short, and the boys at their best. The plot has them as newshounds, disguising as butlers and cooks to get a picture of Prince Shaam and Lady Van Bustle (Symona Boniface). This has plenty of funny gags, and the ending is hilarious, even if it has no real ending (the point is that it's funny). Pay attention to Larry's reactions in the background at the end when Curly and Moe are slapping each other around. His reactions are priceless! One of the Stooges' best shorts. FROM NURSE TO WORSE (1940) - Another gem. Curly goes to an insurance doctor and pretend he's insane as a scam for the Stooges to get some money from the Insurance… Read more
