I get alot of requests to review products by the makers,authors and/or distributors themselves.Unfortunately,as much as I would love to,I just do not have the time,as I have a backlog of items that will keep me going for years.But as always I wish these folks the best in their efforts.
Oblivion(released April/13)stars,among others,Tom Cruise,Olga Kurylenko,Andrea Riseborough,Morgan Freeman and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.Oblivion is certainly a different film,and Cruise is back doing what he does best;playing the intense,somber but conflicted role we know him to o so well.While he and co stars have a lot to say and do,the ultra long story has just far too much to tell,as it jumps from one narrative to another and back again.It unfortunately drags the film down and us with it. TCM's "War Collection" has three solid WW2 movies in it and a Vietnam entry by the Duke.The WW2's show their patriotic zeal in every frame,which is typical of that era,but all are good watchable films.The Green Berets,was John Wayne's thumbing of the nose to the anti-war hippie crowd of the 60s.He had a lot of guts for doing it and I,like many including the Vietnam vets,admired him for it. Most films have few if any extras with them and all four are presented on two dreaded double sided discs.It is my least favoured way of releasing movies,as if you didn't know by now. This Ray Harryhausen gift box has three movies,each two disc editions,and has a wonderfully numbered limited edition YMIR,with certificate enclosed.The movies alone are available by themselves,but if your a big Harryhausen fan,you will surely delight in this handsomely crafted and detailed YMIR that is included.The movies come in a watchable colourized version and the original B&W version.I will say it off the top,that I realize that there has been a "problems" with this set.Namely that the angle icon will appear either throughout all of the movies runs,or intermittently.There are two solutions:To remove the icon go into your DVD menu and look for the angle icon.You simply opt to shut it… Read more
