In My Own Words:
Typical baby-boomer living in South Florida, I grew up listening to almost every kind of music. My tastes remain eclectic, but the hits of the 50's thru 70's remain my favorites. I've done some extensive travels while in the military, visiting
choice vacation spots such as Johnston Island, Shemya, Alaska, and several others. I also spent about 3 years in Europe, which I really enjoyed. I curren… Read more

I've been a fan of the "For Better or For Worse comic strip for years. I was intrigued when I found out that there had been a TV series based on this strip that aired in Canada. I'm glad I ordered it. It's terrific. The strip, and the TV series, center around the Patterson family of suburban Toronto. Elly, wife and mother, is the glue that holds the family together. Her husband, John, is a dentist, family man, and avid lover of model trains. There are three children; Michael, Elizabeth, and April. Mike is the oldest and became a writer. Elizabeth, or as Mike calls her, "Lizard breath", is teaching in a school not far from home after spending a year teaching indiginous children in a small… Read more
Orchestral Tubular Bells ~ Mike Oldfield
Orchestral Tubular Bells ~ Mike Oldfield
3.0 out of 5 stars Nice try, but..., Feb. 27 2004
"Tubular Bells" achieved its fame when the opening was used as the theme for "The Exorcist". The haunting notes of the beginning imparted the feel of what this movie was all about, and, for good or bad, is associated with that movie. This album, which I have on both vinyl and CD, is an attempt to translate Mike's intricate rock-pop composition to a full orchestra. And while it isn't bad, it doesn't impart the same energy and feeling that the original does. I give them credit for trying, but only the truest of fans might want to listen to this one.

I have to say it... this is one of the best showcases of Mike's earlier work. This remixed version of "Tubular Bells" was created as a way to convince Mike that a quadraphonic mix should be created and released. Mike listened and proclaimed it perfect as was, so it was released. The original version, compared to this remix, sounded cluttered and confused. Also, the original American quad pressing, using the CD-4 system as opposed to the SQ format used in England, was marred by a very poor quality pressing. Contrary to what was said in the booklet accompanying this box set in CD, the recordings held on these discs are, in fact, SQ quad despite claims otherwise. I also have the LP… Read more
