Bowling for Columbine (DVD, 2003)
Documentaries are tough fare to objectively review because if you disagree with the director's ideas (as I do in this case) it tends to color the entire review and minimize or shut out some of the more interesting aspecets of the film.
In Bowling For Columbine, Moore sets out to answer the question: Why do American's kill each other in greater numbers than any other democratic nation? Does Moore actually answer this? Not really. In fact, one of the most infuriating aspects of this film is that the director piles on theory after theory to answer the premise(War in Kosovo, Lockheed Martin's Littleton plant, welfare-to-work programs etc. each resulting in bits that are mildly humorous… Read more
Here My Dear ~ Marvin Gaye
Here My Dear ~ Marvin Gaye
In what has to be one of the strangest divorce settlements in history, Marvin Gaye was ordered to turn over the profits from 2 albums to his former wife Anna Gordy. Instead of just doing an album to get the settlement out of the way, Marvin went into the studio and poured out all of his emotions into a rambling, jazz/soul influenced and at many points brilliant double album (single CD). Blue Collar Comedy Tour DVD ~ Jeff Foxworthy
Blue Collar Comedy Tour DVD ~ Jeff Foxworthy
Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall often get tagged as one trick ponies because of the "Redneck" and "Here's Your Sign" routines. Fortunately, that isn't true. Although at times it can be repetitive, The Blue Collar Comedy Tour is easily one of the funniest stand-up movies I've ever seen. Larry the Cable Guy and Ron White mine the more bachelor oriented humor and Engvall and Foxworthy go for the family man routines. But even though their routines are familiar to people who know these comedians, its still laugh out loud funny! This is a great movie to pop open a cold one and watch with your friends.
