5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!, April 9 2004
This truly is a great film, everything about it, the writing, the acting, the directing are all fantastic! This film was obviously a work of love, there were so many aspects that could have been over done but instead everyone involved walked a fine line and in the end delivered an incredible film about a truly heartbreaking story. The added documentary features of the dvd are also worth watching and only add to the depth and beauty of the story.

I bought this DVD based on the glowing reviews of others and if something so weak and badly done can win such praise it just shows the truly poor state of affairs this particular genre is in. I'm normally a very forgiving film goer, I don't have to see highly polished, slick production values to enjoy a movie; "Sordid Lives" comes to mind, a wonderful movie done on a small budget but the worth of the film still shines through any production shortcomings, while "Gone, But Not Forgotten" on the other hand suffers from ailments too numerous to list. Save your money and your time while I do my best to forget I ever saw it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Film For The Heart, March 7 2004
I bought this DVD based on a previous review and it was a gamble well worth taking. Few films evoke emotions in me as strongly as this little gem did; perhaps it's because I grew up in the South, perhaps it's because I've walked similar paths to the ones these characters travel. Whatever the reasons, it touched my heart and I fell in love with the characters and their story, and "Red Dirt" has now earned a place on my favorites shelf.
