I gave this review five stars because pretty well EVERY book I have so far read by Paul Doherty is a gem. The problem I'm running into, however, is that I've read so many of his books over the years, that I honestly don't remember which ones I have and haven't read... this is where the "read-the-first-few-pages-online-for-free" would have helped enormously. This is particularly the case with novels written by writers -- like Paul Doherty -- who write A LOT. As it is, I honestly don't know whether I should buy this book or not..... :)

Apparently Kurt Vonnegut had once said that reading is like meditation... well, this book certainly is in that it transports one to another place. Highly recommended for reducing one's stress levels :)!!!!

This is one action-packed, fast-paced, and atmospheric novel. There is love, mystery, plenty of intrigue, and vivid characters. It also deals with a deeper issue of Constantinople having to accept Western (Roman) Christianity in order to avoid being invaded by the Crusader army, which gives rise to all kinds of philosophical musings and ideals. Highly recommended!
