Michael J. Fox was born in Edmonton in 1961. Residing in Burnaby, British Columbia, while his father was in the Royal Canadian Army Signal Corps, he recounts growing up with parents, siblings, Nana, and friends. Describing himself in the toddler years, Michael says, "... a handful, a whirlwind... precociously funny in a what-spaceship-dropped-off-this-alien kind of way." Michael's early love of music, specifically the guitar (self-taught), was fruitful as a member in the "Halex" band. Author Lorraine Smith had been in academia as her life's career --teaching. The September 1994 school session opens, and Ms. Smith (now Dr. Smith) is looking forward to another year with students. The school building is having a new roof installed, while school is in session. Lorraine Smith experiences illness, along with her students, from the odor of chemicals being used to apply the roofing material.
