Science and Christianity: Conflict or Coherence? by Henry F., III Schaefer
1.0 out of 5 stars Boring and Meaningless, July 2 2004
Dr. Schaefer appears here as a shining example of the fundamentalist Christian and the dichotomy they embrace. On the one hand, Christianity is based on unending love and mercy; and science is good because it is skeptical and objective. On the other hand, the Christian God will cast you into Hell (I challenge the reader to come up with a more horrific and barbaric punishment)if you don't believe in him and any skepticism regarding religion is totally intolerable!
As far as the conflict between science and religion goes, the truth of the matter is that there really isn't much of one. They seek to answer completely different questions. Science tries to explain how things work while… Read more
Mystic River (Widescreen) (Bilingual) [Import] DVD ~ Sean Penn
2.0 out of 5 stars Meaning?, June 18 2004
While this film was very well received by critics and the general public, I found it to be quite boring. Don't get me wrong, the cinematography was outstanding and the actors all turned out bravura performances. The problem is it's plot, or rather the lack thereof. I could discern no consistent theme throughout the movie. It seemed as if the writters had made up a wish list of overly dramatic scenes and then pieced together a story to provide some logical connection betwixt them. The movie is not presented as a suspense film, in which the purpose is solely to keep you guessing and intriqued until the end when the truth (usually a twist)is finally revealed, but rather as a drama, where some… Read more
Glorious Appearing: The End of Days by Tim "LaHaye "
First, I won't use my review to editorialize, as many others have done. Second, it's difficult to relay to an anonymous person how they will enjoy this book. If you are a fundamentalist Christian who believes in a literal Rapture, you'll either love it for it's religious plot or hate it because you find something wrong with the authors' interpretation of biblical prophecy. If your something else, you'll probably find the violence and self-righteousness of the book sickening. The author's repeatedly belittle the beliefs of others in the most hateful way. For example, Satan claims that he evolved and wasn't created, and then is promptly tossed into Hell. This the author's spiteful revenge on… Read more
