I'm a mother of two, a critical RN and certainly not a Luddite. If I had to choose one book to have prior to the birth of my first child, this one would be it. (I'm here to buy one for a family member as a gift, I already own this book!)

I could write my own book with my thoughts and feelings about childbirth, childbirth prepartion, and postpartum recovery. I'll just say this,however...

Childbirth hurts. Take all of the classes, read the books, get drugs, it still hurts. Go to a hospital and expect them to hold your hand during labour and you'll be disappointed, they're too busy to do that. Have someone there with you to support you through the whole thing. After a rocky start, I was able to successfully breastfeed my first child for almost three years. I used only two books as a reference, this one and The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. It is a great trouble-shooting reference when the going is tough. I now buy these two books as shower gifts or recommend them as 'must-haves' to every new breastfeeding mother I meet.

I now am breastfeeding my second child, and made sure that I had the newest edition at my fingertips. Am going to buy it again today to give to a pg family member.

We received the original "Babe" as a gift for our then 1 1/2 old daughter who immediately fell in love with the whole thing. She watched it so many times that we ended up having to buy a new copy! So when this movie was released, my husband and I were excited that a new SWEET Babe story was going to be available for her.

When it was released on video, I immediately rented it. Thank God I watched it first without my child. The opening scenes where the farmer is horribly injured from a piece of machinery accidentally dropped onto him by the pig were incredibly disturbing. It just got worse from there.
