5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, May 26 2011
A fast moving and tense thriller with lots of unexpected twists. I felt I was very much part of the book, and as a parent I went through the roller coaster of emotions that Ellen (the mother) went through. Very hard to put down and it makes you think - what would I do in the same situation?! A great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, May 17 2011
This is a powerful book - moving, compassionate and hard to put down. I did find it slow moving at times, but you feel very much part of the book moving between the characters of Anna, the mother in the 1940's and her daughter, Trudy in 1997. It is very well written and brings the tragedy of war, and the horrors of how people are treated, by other humans, to life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart wrenching, May 2 2011
One of the most heart wrenching books I have ever read - it is also very moving and full of love and compassion. You feel incredible sorrow for what a child has to suffer through and it just makes you aware of some of the dreadful things that go on in the world. The book is beautifully written making it easy to read and hard to put down. It is a book I will never forget.
