Don't make the same mistake. Admittedly, I dole out too many five star ratings influenced, I think, by the wildly inflated star ratings characteristic of amazon's reviews. My reviews are directed at stuff that has little or no feedback, and the otherwise mediocre which is praised to the high heavens. Reviews are done freestyle with minimal editing thus the odd spelling and sentence structure. I do go back in and edit the most egregious errors when I find 'em but this ain't my day job.

Wow!, I wish I'd had this reference guide when I read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy for it is a quick and easy way to learn about or, more likely, remind oneself of a specific Character, Thing, Location, or just about anything contained in the books. It is structured as an Encyclopedia and the entries are as concise as possible while at the same time giving all of the crucial information that the reader needs to know to get genned up it. This is then, obviously, a huge undertaking and explains the sheer mass of this publication (along with the fact that the book's text is printed in the… Read more

Look, I would have bought this book no matter what because it is a topic that fascinates me. Still, I admit that this book wasn't an easy read, mostly because this is more like a history as written by an engineer, if you can imagine that. The book is written by a fellow who was primarily responsible for the making of a reproduction of the Mayflower from plans made through his research on what the Mayflower might have been. Yes, that's right, and who knew it, there is no historical record that definitively describes the technical specifications of this hallowed vessel, nor is there even certainty about the pedigree and fate of the ship? Thus the need to do extensive research about ships… Read more
