Knit Kimono Too: Simple Designs to Mix, Match, and&hellip by Vicki Square
4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and original, Mar 27 2011
The patterns are based on traditional Japanese kimono and other clothing designs as well as traditional colours to match the seasons. The instructions are clear with many detailed photos. The author gives yarn weights in addition to the specific yarns used for the models. There is a very brief history of kimono style and colour; just enough to provide context but not taking up a lot of space. One small flaw: there is no difficulty rating on the patterns, but there are items that a beginner could do as well as more involved pieces.
The Spark: The 28-Day Breakthrough Plan for Losing&hellip by Chris Downie
This book may appear to be the same as countless other diet books but it's not. Author Chris Downie makes very clear that diets don't work as the vast majority of dieters gain their weight back and then some as soon as they're off their diet. The Spark method is a lifestyle change towards healthier eating and exercising. Don't expect results like "The Biggest Loser", slow and steady weight loss combined with other lifestyle changes is the secret of success. It doesn't require special food or fancy equipment, and it does not expect people to give up certain foods - the key is moderation. Together with the free web-based tools (paper copies are available too) this is a very easy program to… Read more

Magnificent Bodyguards DVD ~ Jackie Chan

4.0 out of 5 stars Oldie but Goodie, April 15 2010
This is a typical kung fu movie with a convoluted plot that doesn't even pretend to be in any way close to reality, yet it is enjoyable on many levels, not least the cheesy humour. It is also one of Jackie Chan's early Lo Wei movies which makes it a must for serious collectors. The story centers on a wealthy woman and her sick brother, who hire Jackie as a bodyguard for their trip through bandit-infested mountains. Together with a few other elite fighters they undertake the dangerous journey with a number of unexpected twists and turns. The fighting is excellent - Jackie Chan is one of the Action Directors. In spite of the not so great picture quality this is still a fun movie to watch.
