I used this video for Black History Month in a middle school. Most of the students had heard of Rosa Parks, but didn't know her life story. The film conveys her in such a human manner that the students were able to see her as a person and not just an historical figure. Many of the scenes in the film depicting separate but equal angered these students, who are too young to remember when these things actally existed. The film definitely elicited an emotional response from all who viewed it.
It Had To Be You... The Great American Songbook ~ Rod Stewart
No, this isn't Smiler, Gasoline Alley, Every Picture Tells A Story, or even Vagabond Heart or Human. This is a mature Rod Stewart who has reached back into his youth for songs that those of us who began listening to him when he was with the Faces have never heard before. His music has cut across the generations his entire career (ever notice the age range of the audience at his concerts?) and with It Had To Be You he has picked up yet another generation of listeners. It Had To Be You... The Great American Songbook ~ Rod Stewart
Rod has really hit his stride with American Songbook. His voice has matured over the years, and so, it seems, have his musical choices. His classic voice, along with the classic songs he chose for this album, bring back memories of listening to Dean Martin when I was a teenager. It truly is, as the album's liner note says, a "losen up that pretty french gown" album; sensuous without being overtly sexual, leaving everything to the imagination. It's too bad more recording artists don't recognize the value of the that. Now, Rod, if you would just recover Dean's Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime, that would be the icing on the cake.
