The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie
The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie
4.0 out of 5 stars Just short of Great, March 2 2011
Joe Abercrombie is one of my favorite authors and overall this book continues that standing. Populated with a vaste array of very interesting characters, which is Abercrombie's greatest strength, this storey represents both sides of this battle in an even sided manner so that you really can't pick sides.

This book is best read along with Mr Abercrombie's other works, which I can highly recommend. Certainly understanding the origins of this story enhances your enjoyment.

The only reason I cannot give this book 5 stars is that it lacks the delightful sense of humour found in the original series. If he can bring that back we will continue to follow Gorst, Craw, Calder,… Read more
Empires of Food: Feast, Famine, and the Rise and F&hellip by Evan Fraser

Perhaps it was the ironic timing with what is going on in Egypt and the Middle East right now but I found this book both very informative and entertaining. Well written this book covers a wide range of subjects without any overkill. From how the Roman Empire fed itself to the meanings of Free Trade and Organic foods this book is recommended for the general interest reader as well as the specialist. This book will certainly open your eyes to how the world really works and not what the media thinks.
An Honorable German by Charles L. McCain
An Honorable German by Charles L. McCain
4.0 out of 5 stars a pleasant read, Aug. 31 2010
After a summer of so so reading "An Honorable German" proved to be an enjoyable break. Certainly more than I expected, with good characters, a real feel for life at the time, although a somewhat disjointed story. My only real drawback was the ending which was rather aburpt and certainly lacked closure.
