My Son...My Son: A Guide to Healing After a Suicid&hellip by Iris Bolton
2.0 out of 5 stars a little too academic, Mar 31 2012
I am a social worker who also lost her son to suicide. I found that there were snippets of this book that were what I had hoped to read throughout. I was reading this book not as a social worker, but as a mother who lost her son. I don't care who the psychiatrist was or his career achievements ... too much of that and not enough of the real stuff from one mother to another as I had thought. I did not even finish reading it as the helpful parts were few and far between. I have found other books that spoke more about feelings surrounding the event.

These cd's go through some vocabulary and some small sentences which is helpful. I did find it difficult to follow along in the last half of disc 2 - they go into all the different tenses (past, future), negative, etc. - which was quite confusing! It was like going from grade 1 to grade 5 and wondering how you got there. I realized that I will have to look at some books to learn all the different verb tenses etc. It just seems so much more advanced that the other parts of the cd's. Also, the spanish speaker has a very strong accent - in spanish he pronounces "d" like "th" - I was aware of the spelling, and know that this is a pronunciation from certain spanish speaking areas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great method!, Dec 1 2010
These CD's use a "rhyming imagery" method for teaching which may not appeal to all but they also repeat things back and forth between english and spanish asking you to provide the the appropriate word in the other language - which is very helpful! At the very end of the 2nd disc they suddenly start putting some of the words together in simple sentences. That would be my only complaint ... it would have been nice to have a bit more of using the words in a small sentence.
