What Came Before He Shot Her by Elizabeth George
What Came Before He Shot Her by Elizabeth George
Having only read one Elizabeth George novel previous to this one (which I hated), I cannot comment on how this compares to the other novels she has written. This book is as its title describes, no more, no less. It gives the 10% of this world that does not live in abject poverty and fear a brief glimpse into a world that we cannot even imagine...that a 12 year old boy despearte to protect his family turns himself over to a man whose turf his family lives on, to keep them safe. All the while being used as a player to bring complete and utter disaster to the family he is trying to protect. 5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Read, July 1 2008
I really enjoyed this book by Ginger Garrett. It takes place in Judah, and is a story about Ahab and Jezebel's daughter Athaliah...her "daughter" Jehosebeth, and the hiding of King Jehoram for 7 years. It is a gripping tale. This book is historical fiction at its best, and there is no better writer on the Christian market than Ginger Garrett. I can't wait to read the other books in this series as she writes them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Novel, June 10 2008
Since two of my favorite authors endorsed this book (Kate Mosse, and Diana Gabaldon), I didn't think that I'd wind up unhappy with my purchase. The first few chapters of this book are EXTREMELY slow. I wondered what the heck I had bought...scenes from a pilgimage "Chaucer" style, and the introduction of so many characters that you couldn't keep track of who was who, made the first chapters almost unbearable, BUT it redeemed itself before I was a third of the way through, and after that point it was impossible to put down. I now can't wait to read the next book containing the same protagonist...but must say that this romantic was sorely disappointed when Adelia declined her offer of marriage.
