5.0 out of 5 stars Mind opening experience, Jan. 15 2004
Prior to reading Fadiman's book, I thought I had a pretty good grasp on the Hmong culture. One of my most treasured friends is Hmong - we met in college and Yer has always amazed me with her all American appearance and attitude that can be so totally overcome with her Hmong culture. Reading "The Spirit Catches You..." brought this world so much closer. While it's very easy to read, and the story grabs you and pulls you in, it is also a crash course in Hmong culture and history. Unless you know someone who is Hmong, it's hard to understand how tangible their culture, language, history etc... is all tied together. Fadiman does a great job of tracing the tangled knot of many of… Read more
Alias: The Complete Second Season DVD ~ Jennifer Garner
Alias: The Complete Second Season DVD ~ Jennifer Garner
We got the first season of Alias for Christmas, had to stop half way through and buy a surround sound system with a sub woofer - and picked up the second season while we were out. Season II picks up with the same intensity of the first season. It's a little deep in the Sci-Fi at times but not so much that it breaks the flow. The soundtrack is amazing - it will really put your entertainment system to the test. Sound effects, music, dialog all work together to give you a movie theater experience. The DVD layout is very easy to understand, smooth transitions and great cuts!
Make sure you have the time before you pop this in - there are few stopping points during the entire collection… Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wild Ride, Jan. 7 2004
**WARNING**
Do not start watching this series if you do not have plenty of time on your hands! Having never watched Alias on TV we were unprepared for the wild ride. Started watching the first episode Christmas night and didn't call it quits until 6AM. This is a fast paced, drama-action-Sci-Fi with enough of each to keep all your friends entertained. It's not thought provoking, or intellectually stimulating - it's all fast action thrill ride. I gave it five stars because it delivers entertainment, the DVD layout is excellent (easy to understand)and the soundtrack amazing. We stopped mid way through the first season and made a run to the local giant electronics store to purchase a… Read more
