It would be much better if each book in House of Night could be a satisfied read on its own, and not leave the reader hanging. Then it would not matter how many books are in a series; you could read, enjoy, give and collect as you choose. The first books were great and full of action, but I cannot buy them for gifts because I feel that it is a mean way of pressuring people to buy the rest. But there are far too many for me to buy them all for one gift. The recent books leave readers hanging mid-action, which I find very annoying. I won't read any more, nor will I even recommend them without a warning.
This is a good book for teens, but it is confusing because it is the same book as Hearts At Stake (also written by Harvey) published one month earlier. Much like the first Harry Potter book that was published under two titles: The Philosopher's Stone and the Sorcerer's Stone. Very disappointing for my daughter who wanted to read the next one in the series, and a waste of money for me! There should be something on the cover to indicate that it is the same book, the first in a series.
