Silfra ~ Hilary Hahn
Silfra ~ Hilary Hahn
Five INSPIRED Stars! A great musical duo. On "Silfra", Grammy-winning classical violin virtuoso Hilary Hahn and the inventive avant-garde pianist/composer Hauschka (aka Volker Bertelmann) produce exhilarating, modernist, non-conventional, totally-improvised duo performances. After two years of periodic preparatory sessions, they went to Greenhouse studio in Reykjavik, Iceland for 10 days to produce these amazing musical tone poems. "Silfra" re-introduces us to the adventuresome side of Hilary Hahn (who has performed with a beat-boxer and was last recorded with Valentina Lisitsa playing Charles Ives: Four Sonatas). V 2: New Discoveries ~ Hallenberg; Steck; Kossenko; Modo Antiquo; Sardelli
Five BAROQUE Stars! Rousing, elegant premier performances of Antonio Vivaldi pieces that were lost for 3 centuries! This recording is under the leadership of the multi-talented composer, conductor, flautist, and musicologist Federico Maria Sardelli, performing with his Baroque orchestra 'Modo Antiquo' and an all-star cast including Swedish mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg, violinist Anton Steck, and flautist Alexis Kissenko. Naive Records, which defines its Vivaldi CD line with unique 'head shot' jewel box cover photos, continues to produce more discoveries from the pen of Antonio Vivaldi using the best Baroque musicians and singers. In addition to the aforementioned "a violin concerto, a flute… Read more

Five IMPRESSIVE Stars! Unity, indeed. Multiple Grammy-winning jazz virtuoso guitarist Pat Metheny has assembled a tight, hard-swinging quartet that sounds like its been working for a long time and he gives the group an impressive array of original compositions. "Unity Band" rides the polyrhythms of drummer Antonio Sanchez (especially "Leaving Town"), anchored by the mellow underpinnings of rising star bassist Ben Williams (great "New Year" solo), and tenor sax luminary Chris Potter who adds his soprano sax and bass clarinet to the mix. Metheny, in addition to the wide palette of his electric and acoustical guitar sounds, adds the program-based Orchestrion EPK instrumentation to the… Read more
