In My Own Words:
Full time music student, I love anything composed by Tchaikovsky, and I'm very picky about how they are done. I'm partial to Antal Dorati, Igor Markevitch, Anatole Fistoulari, Evgevny Mravinsky. Paul Paray and the Mercury catalog are excellent as well. I like to have many recordings of the same thing so I can decide what little things I like about each one, hoping to become a conductor putting all… Read moreFull time music student, I love anything composed by Tchaikovsky, and I'm very picky about how they are done. Movies are the Opera of today: they combine drama with visual art and music in ways never explored before the 20th century. However, sadly, the quality of movie music is as wide-ranging and unpredictable as movies themself. The Lord of the Rings obviously takes on a high calling to live up to the epic expectations of the book readers. However, I'm sure that the Box-Office earnings prove the movie's achievement of EPIC status. Thank goodness then, Howard Shore knew what he was getting into when he became a part of this team. I can't tell you how happy I was when I was surprised upon first listening... Not only is this music the type of music that is inherent to people from its use in background music to cartoons, TV, movies, etc... but it is so very enjoyable because it exhudes an amazing, unadulterated amount of PURE JOY and EXCITEMENT... with no attempt at being high-brow, or overly serious music. The good news is that even though this music might be considered to be more "common" among classical… Read more

This must be one of the TOP Swingle Singers CDs out there: excellent vocal sound, great pieces, and hilarious parodies all come together to make this a heck of a fun ROMP to listen to. For anyone unfamiliar with Swingle Singer's- they are a jazz vocal group from the '60s that always used to do warm ups and exercises singing bach fugues intended for keyboards. This requires the most intense focus of pitch for a singer, and incredible vocal gymnastics. They realized that singing these "Exercises" was just as profitable as their jazz, and here we are today with unique discs of instrumental classics arranged for 8 voices. This compilation is as fun as any- the sound more homogeneous than… Read more
