Spiritual Machines ~ Our Lady Peace
Spiritual Machines ~ Our Lady Peace
Well, looking at all the five-star reviews already posted, I know I'm in for a real lambasting from die-hard OLP fans, but I have to be honest... I've listened to this album about 3 or 4 times already and I have to say that it is WAAAAY overrated. This is a fairly middling album with lofty, pretentious ambitions that just doesn't hold together. It's a boring album with weak vocals and unimaginative instrumentation and compositions. There, I said it!

Look, I consider myself a fan of OLP. NOT a die-hard, blind-love type of fan, but a fan nonetheless. I thought their first CD, NAVEED, was one of the great, underrated albums of the '90s. Unfortunately, they seem to have gone downhill… Read more

Some of the 5-star reviews are undoubtedly from fans who grew up watching these episodes in their 1970's heyday. I'm one of those fans, but I hesitate to give this set 5 stars. It certainly deserves it just for the overall wealth of material alone (the complete two seasons, plus extras; some good, some fairly lame--did we really need about 57 different station identifications hosted by Landau and Bain?). However, take it from me (and I'm a fan)... the series is seriously flawed, and I'm not just talking about the science. It makes me wonder if there's a new audience waiting for these episodes or not.

While the overall tone is one of seriousness, these episodes still come off as… Read more

Carnival Of Souls ~ Kiss
Someone stated in an earlier review that you can't not like this album and still consider yourself a fan, as a "true fan" is supposed to support EVERYTHING a band puts out. What a bunch of malarky. Take it from a true KISS fan, one who is a little more level-headed and doesn't have a blind love for all things KISS... this is one of their weakest efforts.

CARNIVAL OF SOULS suffers because it's KISS trying to be something they're not--a grunge band. Talk about shameless bandwagon-hopping. How can you justify 20 years of fun, loud, sleazy rock & roll, then suddenly turn to churning out a pseudo-alternative album that wouldn't even be good enough for the other grunge poseurs that ran… Read more
