My only experience with Darren's music has been through the Savage Garden albums. From the beginning, Darren's songs have been articulate, and much more than the chorus-and-a-few-other-lines most rock music is. I expected more Savage Garden-like music in "The Tension and the Spark", with a generally upbeat sound. What you get, instead, is a dark, powerful, emotional album. The techno music is perfect. These are songs that you find yourself paying attention to. This album is such a departure from what I was expecting that I found it depressing the first time I heard it, but I discovered that it's addictive.
