Feels Like Home ~ Norah Jones
Feels Like Home ~ Norah Jones
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, Feb. 11 2004
Norah and her band have traveled on to a different place, but there's still enough familiar decor to make sure the album "feels like home". The tuneful arrangements, superb musicianship, organic production, and expert songwriting/song selection are all tighter and more focused on this record, and Norah's singing feels a bit more comfortable, her voice slightly more free.
Combining songs that she and/or her band wrote, a couple of reworked covers, and a simply gorgeous version of Duke Ellington's "Melancholia" complete with fitting lyrics by Norah herself (and thus retitled "Don't Miss You At All"), this album follows roughly the same framework as her… Read more
Deep Blue ~ Keiko Matsui
Deep Blue ~ Keiko Matsui
Keiko Matsui's music does not truly fit under the label of jazz -- it would be more appropriately labled new age. While there are hints of jazz influence in her work, and if you really stretched it you could call it a mix of fusion and smooth jazz, it still has much more in common with new age. This, however, does not diminish the fact that her music is still entertaining and worth your while.

Open Sky ~ Iona
Open Sky ~ Iona
5.0 out of 5 stars Their best album yet!, May 4 2001
This album, like all of Iona's work, is indescribably beautiful. On this release they refine every element of their sound, bring Joanne Hogg's haunting vocals to the forefront, and continue the simply unbelievable solo work. Iona's musicianship is probably the best there is -- I can think of no other group that can match them in that respect. They merge myriad styles in their music, most notably celtic, rock, progressive, new age, & of course the Christian faith that inspires it all. Contemplative, intelligent lyrics, soaring synth, guitar, and vocals, and the overwhelming feeling that you are listening to music that has been sent straight from heaven. People of any faith (or none… Read more
