The Movies of My Life by Alberto Fuguet
The Movies of My Life by Alberto Fuguet
A lot of these reviews read like people are trying to write for magazines or in newspapers. It's not my thing to write like that.

When I got this book, I was not too excited. Sure, I read a lot of things. What fun would it be to read a book by someone who styles themselves as NOT writing like someone (e.g. Magical Realists) that I don't like. Having read this book very quickly and cover-to-cover, I was pleasantly surprised with how well it comes together, and how good of a read it was. Fuguet has a great style; the plot continuously moves; and (most) of the characters are well drawn and appear to have bordering on human emotion. He writes to make readers care about his people. Here's why:

Business books are not my first interest. That being said, this book is well-written, with some insight, and incredibly useful because of the systematic way that Cole and Mitchell attempted to evaluate companies and research their proposals. Other reviewers have noted that this book is saying nothing earth-shattering. Earth-shattering books aren't often written about business; what good business books do (and there aren't as many as book sales often show: so much written in this area is absolute garbage) is to reevaluate and present sound thinking and distill other peoples' experiences. Cole and Mitchell do this seemlessly and insightfully. Revoultionary thinking in the business area… Read more
