So far, I have listened to two versions of this. This one, and one by the Busche Quartet, and I must say that I prefer the latter one even though it was recorded in the 1930's and it's recording quality suffers. According to the Penguin Classical CD guide the Busche version is a classic.
The Guaneri version did not draw me into the music, I tended to just drift off and the music just played in the background. At least with the Busche version it did make me sit up and listen, at least in parts.
I'm still looking though. I will try one by the Italian Quartet next.
