This book proved priceless for me as a college athlete. Though geared towards triathlon competitors, I found it very valuable for me as an 800m, 400m runner. It has everything to take you from a-z to prep yourself for competition- weight training, training rotations, diet and supplements to mental preparation, all from a holistic standpoint. I went from struggling to a full scholarship with the help of this book (I'm not saying it will do the same for you). Of particular use for me as a vegan in the Mid- West was the diet and supplement information. Allot of the ideas presented here I found repeated in books by Gary Null and Mark Hyman.
