Desiree: The Bestselling Novel of Napoleon's First&hellip by Annemarie Selinko
5.0 out of 5 stars Desiree, Jan. 14 2003
Desiree is a historical novel. The author wonderfully combined history, romance and fiction. All the elements worked very well together. Desiree's personality is descibed vividly in a subtle way. Although she's a historical figure, I can still associate her with modern women today. That's part of the reason this book is very fun to read. It is also a classic, and it is worth reading over and over. I first read it in Chinese because this book in English was out of print. The story was so good that I invested a good amount of time to track and bought the edition published in 1953. (It's worth it!!)

3.0 out of 5 stars From a Marketing Student, Nov. 23 2002
One of my marketing classes is using this book. I have experienced so much PAIN reading this book that I have to give it a 3 star to release my frustration. The chapters are extremely long. The overall concept of the book is good. There are also interesting facts and exhibits, but sometimes the book keeps repeating itself. For example, in Chapter 16 Sales Promotion, the authors talk about consumer franchise-building promotions. The same concept appears later on in the chapter over and over as individual paragraphs. I understand that a lot of the marketing concepts are interrelated, but they can be expressed much more efficiently.

This book is well written and thoughtfully organized. It covers a wild range of period, therefore, locks of many perspectives and valuable details. For example, the book mentions nothing about Asian wifes among many other things. It is truely unfortunate because this is an area worth people's time learning.
I think this book is best for the age group of 12 to 18. It is a good start for anyone who is interested in women's study.
