Re-reading this book recently, I was struck by the way having artwork of King Arthur and Merlin on the cover almost spoils the beautiful and complex images T H White conjures up. Never mind: it's a great read and makes the screen version, "Camelot", look puerile in comparison. (Whyever did Alan Jay Lerner think the Arthurian Legend was a comedy?) If you can't make it through hundreds of dense pages, at least read the first section, "The Sword in the Stone" -- or have an intelligent child read it to you as a bed-time story.
